Chapter 12

GETTING SOCIAL WITH SOCIAL MEDIA

Michael’s description of this chapter:

“I have never worked a day in my life without selling. If I believe in something, I sell it and I sell it hard.”—Estee Lauder

For my entire business career, I have been in a sales role. Whether it was selling clothing in a retail store, providing merchant services to small- to medium-sized businesses, or creating institutionally credible solutions for high-net-worth clients, one thing I have learned to appreciate is the art of selling.

If you are reading this, there is a strong possibility that you already understand the importance of sales. For those of you who have gotten by up to this point by avoiding your fear of sales, now is the time to overcome your fear. Whether you are a local baker who makes the best pecan pies in town, a mechanic who specializes in turning gas powered vehicles into electric ones, or simply an entrepreneur who wants to focus on your strength while outsourcing your weakness, the art of sales is imperative to surviving in this new world.

For many, the idea of sales conjures up the image of a used-car salesman dressed in a plaid wool jacket strolling up to sell you that lemon of a car on his lot. Or perhaps sales reminds you of a slick haired businessman in a fancy suit trying to convince you to buy an expensive insurance policy that you don’t need. It’s guys like these that give the skill of selling a bad name. Michael Siervo 176 Let me be clear: Selling is not sleazy. People are sleazy. They are the ones who can rip you off and leave you with buyer’s remorse, not the actual activity of selling.

In this chapter I discuss one of the most important skills you need to survive in pivoting in business and communicating in general. Sell your idea or your pivot won’t go anywhere.

Nathan Amor

Owner of F45 Inglewood and Legacy

“I want to help Albertans grow any way I can,” says Nathan.

Nathan has been helping Albertan’s accumulate, protect, and manage their assets for more than 16 years in the financial services industry.

He’s received numerous awards and titles throughout his career, including Wealth Professional Magazine’s Wholesaler of the year, but nothing is as rewarding to him as mentoring – whether it’s mentoring members with their finances or mentoring members of his team.

“I really do enjoy when I can actually help somebody, provide them with advice, and then watch them be successful from it,” he says.

“It’s hugely rewarding when somebody comes to you, and their financial situation is just the dog’s breakfast, and you get to clean it up and tell them they have enough to retire,” he explains.

“Just to watch that calm come over somebody is the most rewarding feeling.”

When Nathan’s not giving financial advice, he’s giving fitness advice. He owns two F-45 fitness studios in the city. At F45 he can take his sales skills and ability to understand the needs of clients to help them with their fitness goals.

He’s a busy man, but Nathan always makes time for family and travel, with an upcoming trip to Columbia to look forward to.

“I really enjoy spending time with my family and family get-togethers,” he says. “That’s when I’m happiest, spending time with my family and loved ones.”
